Job Summary

Hive Group is a rapidly growing small business dedicated to establishing and enhancing robust internal processes. We are seeking an energetic and highly motivated individual to join our team as an IT Specialist providing essential IT support, managing Hive Group’s internal IT infrastructure as well as support of our government clients.  This pivotal role involves a mix of billable client support and critical internal corporate operations.

The IT Specialist will play a key role in advancing company-wide IT, security, and compliance initiatives, including comprehensive documentation and ensuring alignment with rigorous federal standards, specifically the Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification (CMMC) and NIST 800-171 requirements.

This is a full-time, on-site position (5 days/week) located in McLean, VA.

Position Responsibilities

  • IT Administration & Support
  • Maintain a consistent on-site presence, with core hours from 8:00 AM–4:00 PM, and flexibility for an earlier start when operational needs arise.
  • Serve as the primary administrator for the corporate G Suite Platform, managing Google Accounts and employee access.
  • Provide primary in-office technical support for all employee IT needs.
  • Support client requests for IT services and troubleshooting
  • Manage corporate cyber security infrastructure, including maintenance and policy development.
  • Provide support for network access, including VPN, Wi-Fi, and VLAN configuration.

Asset & Endpoint Management

  • Prepare and deploy laptops and Chromebooks for new hires, encompassing imaging, updates, security baseline configuration, and software installations.
  • Maintain a precise inventory of all IT assets, including hardware, software licenses, and physical security assets.
  • Coordinate and track shipments of Government Furnished Equipment (GFE).
  • Conduct regular endpoint health checks and support maintenance of internal AV equipment and firmware updates.

Facilities & Operations

  • Ensure consistent, coordinated on-site coverage in collaboration with the Office Manager.
  • Coordinate with partner staff to ensure facilities compliance and maintenance.
  • Prepare and maintain conference room technology and equipment.

Security & Compliance

  • Actively assist IT leadership with crucial security compliance efforts, including CMMC and NIST 800-171 documentation and internal audits.
  • Test and monitor for system vulnerabilities.
  • Develop and maintain comprehensive IT and security Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).

Reporting & Deliverables

  • Submit detailed weekly status updates and support additional client deliverables as required.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent professional experience of 5–7 years in complex IT Infrastructure and Systems administration.
  • 2–4 years of experience administering cloud platforms, with a strong preference for Google Workspace/G Suite.
  • Proven ability to troubleshoot across diverse operating systems and devices, including Windows, ChromeOS, printers, conference room AV systems, and workstation setups.
  • Fundamental knowledge of networking principles (IP addressing, VLANs, Wi-Fi) and Voice over IP (VoIP) technologies.
  • Demonstrated ability to quickly learn and master new administrative tools and security platforms (e.g., NinjaOne, Sophos XDR, Fortinet).
  • Must be able to obtain a Public Trust Clearance

Preferred Experience:

  • Prior experience in a Government Contracting (GovCon) environment or supporting government clients.
  • Experience with and exposure to NIST 800-171, CMMC, or other related federal security and control frameworks.
  • Familiarity with security controls, documentation, and compliance processes.
  • Previous experience managing an IT Department or team.

Compensation and Benefits 

The estimated compensation range for this position is between $95,000 and $125,000 annually, based on benchmarks in the Washington, D.C. area. This range reflects a good faith estimate for all experience levels. At Hive Group, salary decisions are influenced by several factors, including but not limited to the role, location, and the combination of education, training, skills, certifications, competencies, and relevant work experience.
